This weekend at the Wings Of Strength was unusual in which the event emerged as one of the most watched shows this year as the show . This event was a welcome back for Roelly Winklaar who is an top contender for the coveted title of Mr. Olympia. When he first stepped out onto the stage, he looked very flat and not in shape but low and behold, when the judges started barking out the mandatories, his body seemed to have shook off the ring rust and out came those cartoon sized muscles and striations that we are familiar with. Roelly clearly wasn’t at his best but it was more than enough to beat out Essa Obiad and Jojo Niforo who were also slightly off track as well. This may not have been a decisive win for Roelly, who had just recovered from a horrific motorcycle accident, but its good enough for him to get his ticket punched for the Mr Olympia.
Now the 212 Division was a different story. Everyone assumed that Hideta Yamagishi would pick up the win and he stepped onstage with his usual razor sharp conditioning. However, low and behold, Charles “RocSolid” Dixon came in and blew out the candles in that pre-celebration party with a physique reminiscent of the 8 time Mr Olympia Ronnie Coleman. It was simply too much for the judges…much less the entire universe to not notice and as a result, he received all 5’s on the score card. Charles now gets to head back onto the 212 Olympia stage after not making an appearance since 2009. In addition, he’s now brought home his first professional win.
Congratulations to all competitors and we hope to see you at the Mr Olympia
