In a strange and unfortunate twist of fate, Cedric McMillan will be sitting on the sidelines at the first running of the Arnold Classic Brasil. Cedric was favored to win this event however he failed to show up for the mandatory athletes meeting. Lee Thompson called out the list of names and when he got to Cedric, there was no answer. Lee had then made a proclamation that if Cedric did not show up within 15 minutes that he would be disqualified from the event along being fined some major payola. Cedric did finally reveal himself however it was 30 minutes later. He attempted to talk to the officials from what I understand but it was to no avail and Cedric’s name on the list of competitors has been scratched out.
This events makes me wonder what happened to Cedric from him to make such a careless mistake as to not show up for the mandatory athletes meeting??? I’m sure that there will be many people contemplating and discussing this matter for quite some time. However, this is a huge blow to Cedric as this event would have been a fantastic springboard for the Mr Olympia. But now he will have to painfully stand by and watch someone else walk home with the trophy.
UPDATE: Cedric McMillan has been let back into the show.
From Bob Lorimer:
“Cedric was very sorry to have missed the meeting due to Rio rush hour traffic. I saw him right after the meeting at the convention center. He was very apologetic. We are happy to have him compete. We wish all the athletes the best of luck!”
So now the question is this….what was going through Lee Thompson’s head when he tried to DQ Cedric completely out of the show? Did he seriously expect that the fans of this great sport would sit idol knowing that the best competitors were not going to take the stage because of a technical error. Granted, its not kosher to be late to the athlete’s meeting and everyone including myself who has competed knows the importance of being punctual. However, its not like he missed prejudging. A simple fine and a stern warning would have been sufficient to quash the matter. It is important for athletes to follow the rules however you cannot enforce rules on certain people and not for others. But now that the fire has been somewhat extinguished, hopefully we can get back to enjoying this wonderful event without anymore distractions.
They changed their minds again and disqualified him after saying otherwise and Cedric caught a plane back home….I’m not going to report any further as this matter is giving me a headache!!!
