So it seems as though Maria Sharapova recently failed a drug test however the public perception is always going to be for steroids. However Maria tested positive for a substance called mildronate. This substance was just recently banned this year as of Jan 1st. So what is this product you may ask. Well, let old Vince give you the rundown….
Mildronate is an anti-ischemic drug that helps people with heart and circulatory condition allowing more physical capacity. In addition, it also improves mental function. Its rarely used in the United States and its much more popular in the European countries. Midronate can be injected intramuscular or more commonly is in capsules and can be easily obtained online…usually under the name MET-88.
The reason for the ban by WADA (World Anti-Doping Industry) is due to it being an ergogenic aid in oxygen intake and endurance. So anyone using this product in competition would have a slight advantage in a prolonged activity such as tennis, football, cycling, or marathon running. So while this is far from being any anabolic steroid, it is a substance that will give an very, very, small advantage which is a big laugh in my opinion because the black market is always 5 steps ahead of law enforcement.
Overall, the fallout for Maria for trying to flaunt the system is going to be quite severe. Not only have her sponsors have pulled out but her victories and career will now be in question. More than likely, you can expect her to simply retire as she’ll be left with no support. But we’ll all know soon enough in the coming days
